It Happened On Manhunt: I Met My Best Friend

When you meet someone for a hook-up, there’s always a chance things might evolve into an unexpected relationship. For all you know, you could be slobbering all over the cock of your next boss, future husband, poker buddy… Perhaps even your new best friend?

Hell, it’s even happened to a few of us in the office. But it never fails to put a smile on our faces.

Rich W. 24 years old. Gay. Super Mario fanatic. My best friend in the whole world.

Okay, so we met on the glorious Manhunt. I winked at him, said he was cute, blah blah blah. Then we got to chatting. I said I have a holiday house and gave him the street – he goes “no way, I live around the corner from there!”.

NO WAY, I thought. A young, cute gay guy lives right around the corner from my holiday house, in a town that’s technically considered a retirement community? Too good to be true, I said!

Anyway, being young and gay, we of course decided to meet up for a play. So one night when my family was away, I invited him over. It started out innocently enough – watched a movie, kissed, cuddled. Then it got to, let’s say, the nether regions.

We were having fun and we were both attracted to each other, but about halfway through, we both just sensed that there was no real sexual chemistry there. So we mutually decided to stop, and just went back to chatting.

We chatted for six hours. Six straight hours. We talked about life, love, school, work, relationships, mistakes, family, the future, goals, regrets, pretty much everything. It was then we realized that there was definitely something there.

It was that same night that we agreed to see each other again but never again do anything sexual, even kissing (apart from special occasions). It was from that point on, seven months ago, that we have been best friends ever since.

It’s not the typical best friends meeting situation. But hey, that’s why we love it – it’s unique to us and our relationship.

  1. It’s a curious thing about male sexuality in general and gay homoeroticism in particular. This has been discussed on Manhunt during the tenure of Michael Alvear’s column (which was supplanted by Manhuntdaily). He talked about the Madonna Complex and how men learn to dissociate physical and emotional intimacy such that, as feelings for a partner develop, sexual interest wanes.

This has been true for me before. The closer I’ve become emotionally to a partner, the more lukewarm the sex became … or … once I met someone with whom I wanted to be friends in a nonphysical role, I ceased to have any interest in that person for sex even though I craved that person’s companionship. I think there are longstanding “open” gay relationships that fit this model.

This is how it played out here. The moment these two guys decided that they were interested in a more “platonic” relationship, the spigots of physical desire were immediately shut down.

  2. And 7 months later, they were still best friends… is this considered an inspirational story?

  3. This sounds more like something out of some book. Sorry, but I am going to have to call BS on this one.

  4. You guys are idiots. Just enjoy the stories. They may not be real to you, but they are real to the people writing them. So instead of being a bunch of bitching faggots, just enjoy it or don’t post at all. Jesus Christ….
