Jhené Aiko‘s “3:16AM” is the emotionally complex sister track to Cassie‘s lone 2006 hit “Me & U”. A large part of this comparison could be a result of the minimal production by Fisticuffs (who also produced Miguel‘s remarkably sexy “Arch ‘N’ Point”), but it comes down to more than that.
There’s a similarity between the two singer’s nearly apathetic delivery. In Cassie’s case, she was (allegedly) singing about blowjobs. Jhené, however, goes in a darker direction that matches the icy tone of the track’s instrumental, and I’ve yet to decide if that works to her advantage.
What do you think of the track? Would you listen to it again? Does it successfully convey the feelings it sets out to portray? Is it just too fucking depressing for a Friday morning, when you should be getting ready for the weekend and douching your anal cavity whilst listening to “Let’s Have A Kiki”? I anxiously await your answers.

I’ll stick to the douche and “Let’s Have a Kiki” for this morning, and give this song a replay on a rainy Sunday night.
I’d hit that…
