Okay, we may have just posted about Christopher Meloni, but brace yourselves for some more Law and Order: SVU action. More specifically, brace yourself for a total lack of action. Kathy Griffin acted as a guest star on last night's episode, playing a lesbian activist named "Babs". Though a scene was filmed in which her character locks lips with Detective Benson (Mariska Hargitay), it was edited to omit the actual kiss.
This leaves one big question–why did the kiss wind up on the cutting room floor? Benson pulls away immediately to specify that she's straight, and then tells a female character who's about to enter the room, "If I were you, I'd stay outside." For those who saw the full episode, what did you think of this?

I saw the episode, and it was a terrible and simplistic representation of queer activists. Babs blamed all her problems on the heteronormative society… an obvious misrepresentation.
Two thumbs down Law & Order.
Oh! And when Babs came out bisexual, the protesting crowed booed her! Are you kidding me? We friggin love each other. Two thumbs way down.
Kathy Griffin is so rude and so crude and not very attractive physically, it is hard to imagine anyone of any sexual orientation wanting a kiss from her. I always wonder how Anderson Cooper tolerates her on those New Year’s Eve specials they do. I have a feeling her on-screen persona is probably not very different from her real-life persona. Personally, I can’t stand her.
we all know that law & order: svu takes everything to the extreme. i’m an avid watcher. everything is stereotyped beyond recognition. but you can’t sit there and tell me you don’t know some lesbian (or gay guy) who does teh same thing the character in this episode did.
i thought that kathy’s comedic timing was spot on at times, but it was awkward seeing her in a dramatic character.
i saw the ‘uncensored’ clip of the kiss. i thought it was a bit more awkward than intended.
all-in-all i didn’t mide the episode.
@Connor
about the bisexuality thing.
Ever read any of the lesbian literature on Ani Difranco about when she married a man?
The general reaction was not a very positive one.
And most gay men scoff in disbelief when others say they are bi.
true, most who would be out rallying would welcome so an admission openly, but among the general community, bisexuality is not often fully accepted, or viewed as real.
It’s unfortunate, but true
I personally found it hard to believe her character until they found out she was bisexual…I always felt like she was lining up for a punch-line that was never delivered…but I still liked the episode…I only find it sad that it took 45 minuets for me to realize the name of her organization was “lez be strong”…I lol’d. hard. All in all I enjoyed the episode though…but I’m pretty sure SVU can do no wrong in my eyes…>.>
