Kimbra: “Two Way Street”

Kimbra is always hit or miss for me. While I recognize that she’s an overall talented artist, I don’t connect (musically, not emotionally) with every single track she puts out. Sure, her breakout vocal performance on the now-painfully-overplayed “Somebody That I Used To Know” was luxurious, and the dark weirdo-pop of “Settle Down” sold me prior to any of that nonsense. Then, of course, there was the sunny pep of “Cameo Lover” and the electro blog-fodder greatness of “Warrior”, her collaboration with DJ A-Trak and the dude from Foster The People.

But, uh, “Two Way Street”, the fifth and final single from her debut album Vows?

While I can’t necessarily call it a “bad” song, it’s just a little too polished and shiny-happy for my personal tastes. The Matthew Rolston directed music video, however, is fucking beautiful, and I could watch it over and over and over and over… And, well, you get the picture.

  1. Wow, I love the exact same songs from that album, too, plus “Wandering Limbs”.

  2. It`s pretty surreal to compare how she looks in something professionally produced,  and a regular interview.

  3. She’s cute, and it’s like she could pull off some of Katy Perry’s looks better than KP does herself. All that said, this song plus music video were a little unimpressive. Probably won’t be listening again, but thanks for showing them to me all the same, Dewitt!

  5. Kimbra is an amazingly talented young woman with a beautiful voice who is doing extremely well in her career. Not bad for a shy girl from small town New Zealand.
