While I do agree that some gay men make the “public image” of other gay men a little less respectable, this has NOTHING to do with the topic at hand.
This guy is a total joke. He’s whining about the fact he lost a job at Subway, claiming that it’s equal to the harassment that actual gay men go through. I wish I had lost one job instead of the endless amounts of torture I endured throughout high school. I was actively removed from the football team once I decided to join the GSA. He will never experience the true hatred that others feel for gay men so his claim is null and void. Some of us have it easier than others, but there is still an ingrained self loathing that he will never understand.
THAT is the issue here. THAT is why gay men laugh at him and say “oh he is SO gay.” He can label himself as he wants, but he CANNOT claim to know even one one hundreth of the rejection we receive. Plain and simple.
Interesting topic. However, I honestly don’t believe in heterosexuality anymore than i believe in complete homosexuality. I think, humans are sexual beings, and inherently bisexual (to varying degrees of course) However i don’t believe anyone is 100% either orientation. I strongly believe in the Kinsey studies of the 1940’s. I think society, one to always make people check a box for practically everything from politics, religion, heck even race so we can be easily defined. Sexuality is much to gray to be defined one or the other. Come on guys you all should know that!
As for the gay pride comment. I at first thought the same, that we should tone down the pride festivals and make them more respectful to the public. However i think that somewhat misses the point of a pride parade. You have to look at our history..yes take the cocks out of your mouths for a moment and look at our own historic moments. The first pride parade took place at a time when homosexuality was very much still hidden. People were fighting for the right not to be fired from their jobs for the sexual orientation. It was a time when police would regularly raid gay bars and beat up patrons. pride parades, as i have grown to take them, are simply a “take that” to the straight community. a time when we will not be silenced, or hidden, or covered up in ANY way. We will march in drag, or in our underwear displaying our sexuality, and yes flaunting it. for its the one day a year when we can. Its for all the times people have told us not to “flaunt” our lifestyle in their faces…to basically hide. Thats why i support pride parades, as they are, sexualized, colorful, and naked as they can be.

Wouldn’t it be nice if instead of everyone labeling themselves as gay or straight we could all just accept that as men we are all incredibly sexual beings and some of us enjoy sex with men, some of us enjoy sex with women, and some enjoy sex with both. But since this is a world filled with hatred both external and internal, we will probably never see this kind of utopia evolve. While I understand why so many people aren’t into the “scene” (I don’t do clubs, parades, or other gay trips, but I do like watching project runway and ANTM and porn and having sex with my boyfriend), the thing is those who are in the “scene” aren’t trying to make the rest of you conform.
