Lady Gaga Drops Madonna, Picks Up Pat Benatar

We’re not knocking the girl’s hustle, but she sure is wearing her influences on her…ridiculous shoes. Lady Gaga dropped a new single (“The Edge of Glory”)  from the upcoming Born This Way album yesterday. The song sounds like Pat Benatar met Bonnie Tyler for drinks, and Laura Branigan and Quarterflash unexpectedly dropped by. Holy 80s! She’s even got Bruce Springsteen‘s sax guy on it for a solo.

It’s not going to end there. She’s reportedly going to release another song from the album before its release. There won’t be anything left to hear off of it at this rate. When iTunes asks me if I want to complete Born This Way, it will interrupt itself and say “Nevermind. You have all of it. But you still have 3/4 of that Aqua album that you never finished…”

Listen to “Edge of Glory” here, and come back and tell us what you think!

  1. i thought it sounded more like “this a song for the lonely” by cher meets “tgif” by katy perry

  2. besides, she only gave Rolling Stone 4 songs off her new album : Born This Way, Judas, Edge of Glory and one other song (praying for Government Hooker, but her tweets suggest Marry the Night). I think it’s more about her trying to quell it being leaked, which is why Judas was released earlier than planned AND most likely the reason why “Edge of Glory” was released yesterday at 4PM EDT

  3. She is a goddess.

In any case, she’s an artist, and sounding like someone else isn’t a crime. Gaga has always let her inspirations shine in her work.

  4. its funny how her songs are released, and ppl immediately jump and make strains for comparisons for every song she releases.lol.

  5. I am so sick of gay guys fawning over another drag freak bitch who has little talent vocally and the out ragious customs should be only seen on halloween in harlem. Come on guys grow up and show a little more taste when it comes to supporting another Cher want to be.

  6. Well a lot of artists release 1-3 “promotional singles” before the album comes out. Black Eyed Peas and Katy Perry off the top of my head have done it.

It’s in order to win over people who are skeptical about the first one or two singles so they’ll by the album too.

And for me, it totally worked. I hated both Born This Way and Judas, but I’m feeling this one. So I’ll top my Gaga boycott and get the album, unless her next promo is another hot ear condom wearing mess.

  7. Why do people hate Born this Way and Judas??? I don’t get it! I love those songs!!!

  8. YES YES YES…back to the Gaga we all love. No religion for shock value, no gimmicks, just her voice and a bad ass beat. who cares if its Benatarish or 80s, its gonna pump on the floor and we are all gonna end up knowing all the words. Hope she goes back to being GAGA and not trying to be a post-millenium madonna. This track is great as for Judas…meh, not impressed. good beat but playing off the mary magdalene/Jesus story…not very original.

You mean what she just did one song ago??

  10. the only reason they released EOG was b/c Judas is such a flop and Interscope is afraid sales for the album will be soft. Radio stations are not playing Judas. It debuted at No. 10 on the Hot 100, dropped to No. 12 the following week, and slid to No. 20 this week. It got a bump after the video release but that’s about it. She pretty much copies Madonna. EOG sucks too.

  11. I actually think Judas was a brilliant idea, she just sucked at executing it. Non-religious gays feel free to roll your eyes at me, but using a relationship with Judas as a metaphor for any sort of vice you allow to get between yourself and God is a really clever idea. She just didn’t deliver on it. She wasted it on sloppy lyrics like ear condom. Judas coulda been great instead of being mediocre to poor.

Edge of Glory isn’t my favorite song ever, but it’s a vast improvement.

  12. Actually, this isn’t an official singe. Nor will be the one next week. They are promos for the album.

If you buy all singles, you don’t have to pay full price for the album.

AMAZING song! One of her best. Man can she sing! Did you catch her live on Oprah and Ellen? Ballads and dance numbers – she can sing em all!

  13. she is the best person who ever lived. no one can touch her. if there was a god gaga would be better. she is better than big bang

  14. Well… She is only human. Quite frankly I don’t see what all the fuss is about. So she has a mediocre voice with mediocre lyrics.

All in all, what can say but WOFTAM (Waste Of F***ing Time And Money).

I can think of other things to spend my hard earned cash on.

  15. this song is really good, i love it. ON her deluxe album there are about 18 tracks so these 4 tracks are alittle but of what gaga has to offer I CANT WAIT

  16. born the way grew on me, judas was a steaming piece of crap… and the sound of this one is interesting, I am curious to see what else comes of this album.
but overall, I miss the Gaga from summer 08, before the hype
and I’m still enjoying everything Robyn and Kylie so much more than anything Gaga

  17. Edge of Glory please! More like Edge of My Career. Lady Gaga is one of the most over-rated pop stars. She has got some talent, I’ll admit that but there’s nothing original about her. M.I.A. said it perfectly “None of her music’s reflective of how weird she wants to be or thinks she is. She models herself on Grace Jones and Madonna, but the music sounds like 20-year-old Ibiza music, you know? She’s not progressive, but she’s a good mimic. She sounds more like me than I f*cking do!”

  18. She really sucks. Anyone with half a brain can tell, sad that most gays don’t have half a brain though and love this mindless garbage. Oh well, have fun dancing in your spiderman briefs at the club to this trash.

  19. It started off out of key, the lyrics and music did not match that quite well. But, it then balanced right only with a mass confussion of whether it to be pop, rock, or abit of jazz. Still, it will make a good Eurovision song contest entry.
End of the day it is the artist who decides on whether to release it or not. Perhaps a B-side rather than an A-side track.
