Not everyone is a fan of Lady Gaga, but they need to admit that she’s had an amazing year. Her album The Fame Monster went multi-platinum, her The Monster Ball Tour sold out in minutes, she has the highest number of “Likes” on Facebook for a living musician and now she’s been nominated for 13 MTV Video Music Awards. How did Gaga respond? Here’s what she said:
“I’m so honored for all the little monsters and self-professed freaks of the universe, to have more VMA nominations in a single year than any artist in MTV history. Ironically, I’m even more proud it’s an unlucky number: 13. A long time ago the world told me and my little monsters we would never be heard, together we changed the rules. God put me on Earth for three reasons: To make loud music, gay videos and cause a damn raucous. Thank you, MTV!”
Paws up little monsters! My bet is that “Bad Romance” gets Video of the Year. Thoughts?
UPDATE: She also got an additional 5 nominations for her collaboration on Beyonce‘s “Video Phone“.

Ugk, she doesn’t deserve all of them… but maybe half. If it wasn’t for all the teenagers and perez hilton she wouldnt be anything. That being said, I do think she should get video of the year. I hope she can focus more on her music than her image.
I think the radio staions WAY overplay her on a daily basis.

it is not just teeny boppers. she can sing, write, play, knows how to be outrageous and garner attention, and has stage presence. maybe that’s why she is so successful? maybe?

The only problem with that logic is that Cyrus CAN’T sing. Or act, for that matter.
This woman deserves all she has….Bad Romance Alejandro and Telephone made here what she is today.She is one of my fav singers noo she is my fav. Cyrus is ok but is no match and should never be compared to GAGA….

There’s a difference between teeny boppers and teenagers. Teeny boppers like Miley Cyrus and Bieber. Teenagers like GaGa. And the pop music scene has always been driven by the demands of teenagers, so the idea that this is somehow different from the norm is ridiculous.
Bad Romance will definitely get Video of the Year. It has the most YouTube views of any video and dominated the iTunes charts longer than any video this year. If Bad Romance doesn’t win, something is wrong.
Has anyone heard her new “remix” album that just came out? I wonder if they are good or just those generic remixes some put out.

What struck me about Bad Romance was something like 5 million views in the first two days it was on youtube (don’t quote that). imho, Gaga has more musical sophistication than most popsters: along with unforgettable, SINGABLE melodic hooks, she makes regular use of polyphony – even beginning the Bad Romance video with a touch of fugue… (puns intended). I also rather respect the fact that she can knock socks off when performing acoustic and playing her own piano – as if under all that electropop glitter there’s a touch of the old-fashioned crooner (perhaps male crooner) in her.
Ugh. Isn’t her fifteen minutes of fame over yet? (Is that the way that goes, Erik?)
um, she has the most noms because she got nominated in a million categories for 2 videos. This is new. back int he day of Michael and janet and madonna, they would be nominated for ONE video in each category. and im sorry, gaga can’t dance. she is just all about the presentation. her lyrics are childish and her music sounds like 90s pop music (ace of base anyone)
Woodchuck, I couldn’t agree with you more. She truly is a versatile artist in the way she knows how to direct every facet of her career from writing the music, to directing the videos and designing her clothes.
I’m surprised Alejandro didn’t get nominated for anything, or is it because it’s relatively recent, it’ll be included in next years nominations?
And P.S. I doubt Miley Cyrus writes all her songs…
I loved her for the longest time, but she chose to release this “Alejandro” abortion and create some over the top explanation of the video.. that’s a different story. I feel she should release some of her tracks like, “Speechless” and “Again, Again”… the quality tracks.
She already has her name out there. It’s about time she bring some of her real music and talent and cut back on the gimmicks. She’s an amazing artist, but I need to hear her really talk about her life experiences and stop being a character.
@MB.. I don’t think we want to hear about her true life experiences. According to an interview she recently had, she says she’s an alcoholic because she can’t handle the fame. She says she will most likely die onstage from an overdose…

Yeah…. I really idolize her! NOT! Those are some life experiences I don’t need to hear. She needs to take care of herself instead of worrying about putting more music out there. Miss Gaga has some serious issues.
I just saw her last night and she is by far the most fantastic, balls out performer I have ever seen or heard of. michael jackson was great, but she even outshines him. On top of all that, though, she is incredibly down to earth and based on her response to her noms, incredibly humble.
I just saw her in concert 2 days ago and I think she deserves a lot of these awards. She was visually and vocally incredible!!! I went to the show being just a regular fan who went to the show because a friend gave me a ticket and left completely inspired and appreciative for what she does as well as astounded that anyone can put on a show like that! If you get a chance to see her definitely take it whether you are a fan or not because you will have an amazing time!
