There were some surprises after the first round of voting in MANHUNT Daily's quest for the 2009 Song of Summer, including the premature departure of Keri Hilson and an overwhelming love for Kelly Rowland. Other casualties included Jay-Z's "Death of Autotune" and Green Day's "Know Your Enemy".
In case you missed the rules last time, each week we will be featuring ten songs eligible for high honors in soundtracking your beach parties, sweaty encounters and outdoor sports competitions. Based on your votes, the top seven will move on to the following week along with three new selections.
Is your summer jam missing from our list? Leave a comment nominating it for next week. We'll give it a listen and decide whether it makes us want to get wet and take our clothes off. Speaking of getting wet, we have to go rub some lotion on some muscle boys at the beach. It's all in the same of fighting skin cancer, you know?
– Dewitt
To see this week's charts and vote, follow the JUMP:
- Lady Gaga – LoveGame (LW – 2): Are we seriously not over this song yet? No, we're not. The Gaga has some strange power over us, and we're sure we'll be riding her disco stick far into the late summer.
- Michael Jackson – Thriller (DEBUT): Do you even need to ask why this made such a high debut? In the week of the King of Pop's death, we wonder if this will be a summer of nostalgia.
- David Guetta f/ Kelly Rowland – When Love Takes Over (LW – 3): All the haters who said Kelly wouldn't make it? Guess what? Our girl hit number one on the UK charts! Gaga beat her by a thin margin last week, so there may be a chance of her hitting number one on our charts too.
- Mariah Carey – Obsessed (LW – 1): We were surprised that Mimi's lambs let her down like this! The Imperfect Angel got ejected from her reigning number one spot, but we all know she's damn good at making a comeback. The question is–will her return to the top involve "Obsessed"?
- Britney Spears – Radar (LW – 6): Jeez, Britney's fans are crazier than Mariah lovers! Not only do they pay hundreds of dollars to go see her lip-synch, they also don't seem to mind that this song is a rerelease from her last album.
- The Ting Tings – That's Not My Name (LW – 9): This duo made the biggest jump of any song on the charts. Unfortunately, it makes us regret not creating a rule that all eligible songs should have been released as a single within the past year. Between this and "Radar", you guys seem to have some stale taste!
- The Pussycat Dolls f/ Nicole Scherzinger – Hush Hush (LW – 7): The Dolls hold strong at number seven, but can they hold their grasp with this "I Will Survive" biting number after pride season fades away?
- Drake – Best I Ever Had (DEBUT): Even though Jay-Z didn't have what it took last week, we think this Degrassi: The Next Generation alum could pull through in the name of hip-hop. Plus, we're pretty sure we became gay due to the prospect of whistling pussies.
- 3OH!3 – Don't Trust Me (LW – 5): Sure, this song's four spot fall had a lot more to do with two higher debuts. On the other hand, we're still not sure if their bulges are enough to convince us that this song is good.
- La Roux – Bulletproof (DEBUT): This week's underdog flew in from overseas to splooge a big load of delicious synth-pop all over your face. Are you ready to take it? The music, that is…
“Jeez, Britney’s fans are crazy”
– lol, ye, we are crazy.
and we will always support her.
and buy tickets just to see her lip-sync.
and vote for her songs no matter how old they are!!!
There should definitely be some MGMT on here. Either Kids, Electric Feel, or Time to Pretend. They are all amazing summer songs.
I’ll second that MGMT voice! Kids!! (That said… enough with the Gaga. Vote Mariah, everyone!)
It hasn’t been released yet in the Untited States, but I’m hearing it alot at clubs with jukeboxes…The Pet Shop Boys’ “Did You See Me Coming”…I’d like to nominate that as a future song of the week. It’s very danceable, and has that breezy summer quality in the vocals . It’s the second single off “yes”.And I’m surprised that “Love, etc.” hasn’t been nominated. It’s the 25th top 10 billboard dance single they’ve had . At # 9 as of last week…
hmm… my gay side or my bubblegum hiphop side?!
i’m going w/ drake “best i ever had”.
I’m gonna have to say ‘Work’ by Ciara ft. Missy Elliott. The song is fantastic and the video is phenomenal. Although, I like to joke and say it’s the new Beyonce Video ft. Missy and the PussyCat Dolls.
