Mariah Carey has rehired her former public relations manager, Cindi Berger, and the bullshit is already starting to pour in. Berger issued a statement about the upcoming project Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel being pushed back to September 29, trying to act like Mimi’s not shaking in her boots over her rival Whitney Houston‘s highly anticipated comeback.
“Record release dates change all the time,” Berger confirms. “It’s nothing unusual and it doesn’t signal anything. There are a lot of moving parts to Mariah’s professional life… She’s making sure the record is how she wants it to be and it’s no big deal.”
Actually, someone should notify dear ol’ Cindi that record dates don’t normally change for random reasons. Normally, albums are pushed back because the first single (or two) isn’t embraced by the public.
Speaking of which, her statement also mentioned that “Obsessed” was apparently not the first single, calling it a “summer trifle”. But what’s in a name? That which we call a single by any other name would flop as hard. Guess we saved the wrong song on this week’s Song of Summer charts.
Prepare yourselves for Carey’s second first single, a cover of Foreigner‘s “I Wanna Know What Love Is”.

Why did the background change from blue to black…
I’m not feelin’ it at all, change it back…
Generally Mariah has been pushing her sound towards the younger crowd. Whereas Whitney’s sound is more grown up. By pushing it back to September she gets to compete with Madonna.
Obsessed is the only song I’ve ever liked by Mariah. Not sure why it’s such a flop. I find her to be extremely overrated and have never been sure why everyone likes her so much.
@Randal
I can’t agree with you more. I never find her music interesting, I don’t get it.
