Marie Osmond Supports Gay Daughter

If Marie Osmond's last statement on her gay daughter seemed a bit confusing, a new interview shows just how supportive she is! I nominate her as the new good will ambassador between the gays and the Mormons.

Not to assume Marie previously hated the gays, but there's nothing like realizing your own child is gay to teach you tolerance and acceptance (in some cases).

Check out her interview with Entertainment Tonight and let me know what you think. I think she's great!

  1. Good will towards Mormons? Hell. Fracking. No.
No amount of niceness and kumbaya-singing will change the faith-based hate homophobia of the Mormons or of any other anti-gay group. The LDS Church has declared war on gays, and I say we fight.
I am certainly welcoming and tolerant of gay-positive Mormons like Marie O, but I seek no accommodation for bigots, be they Mormon, Catholic or rabid Evangelicals. The pain caused by the Mormons in the recent Prop 8 smear-job in California should be reason enough to do all that we can to fight them tooth and nail.

  2. Yes, because fighting bigotry with bigotry is a BRILLIANT solution -.-
Hate morons. Hate bigots. Don’t hate generalized groups though. The above is proof enough that Mormons aren’t united on this. There were plenty of them in the anti-8 groups on Facebook who were there to be there, rather than dissent.

  3. As an active gay mormon. I know that there are those who are supportive of us being gay. They may not agree with how we choose to live our lives but they LOVE us, and SUPPORT us regardless.
I know some who have lost their sons or daughters to suicide for being gay and mormon. They still support the church but also love those of us who are gay.
Like everywhere, there are some who will just never get it.

  4. I am Mormon..inactive, but still – Mormon. I also know Marie personally (she used to be my neighbor in Provo, Ut). She’s a very kind and loving lady – great mom, good to her friends. She’s also been the black sheep a time or two, within her own family (divorce, etc.). The LDS church NEEDS people like Marie to enforce acceptance within the Church. As with any religion, it’s not always the PEOPLE in the Church that need guidance, but the CHURCH itself.

  5. I am officially in love with Marie Osmond. Am I the only one who remembers how unaccepting Cher was at first when Chastity came out? For a Mormon woman who has been portrayed as the family ideal for four decades now to go on television to make sure everyone knows how much she loves her gay child is amazing to me.
Yes, we have far to go, and I am extremely angry at what the Mormon cult has done in general. But judging all Mormons by the actions of some (or even many) is just as bad as judging all gays based on the actions of some or the lying stereotypes perpetuated by hate-filled bigots.
I agree with EthanSays – the LDS church (and all churches) need more people to stand up for what is right. Call it the Christ-like thing to do or call it the human thing to do – either way, I will always welcome anyone who believes in love without labels.
