Microsoft has pulled the widely panned Jerry Seinfeld–Bill Gates ads and have started running this ad. It’s definitely a little more relevant than the previous ones, but is it effective?
They are directly responding to the "I’m a PC, I’m a Mac" Apple commercials by starting out with "Hello, I’m a PC, and I’ve been made into a stereotype." This is the first sign that Microsoft is losing the ‘hip ads’ war… Apple has forced them to play on their home field, and has Microsoft jumping through hoops.
The Apple ads have been a success and acclaimed by marketing professionals and consumers across the board, but I doubt this Microsoft campaign will measure up. I could be proven wrong, but we will see!
As a side note, I wonder why Microsoft decided to end with "I’m a PC, and I sell fish." What the heck?
