Hilarious, sarcastic and at times a bit naughty, Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk by David Sedaris is a must read. At just 159 pages, this palm-sized book of short stories will have you feeling good and laughing out loud. I’m a huge fan of Sedaris. Yes, kids, he’s the brother of none other than our favorite former boozer, loser and user, Jerri Blank aka. Amy Sedaris.
His latest offering is a collection of children’s fables with an edge. Think Aesop meets Larry Clark. Interracial relationships, homosexuality and alcoholism are made hilarious when seen through the eyes of a random selection of misfit animals. Also beautifully illustrated, the book would make a great gift for the black sheep in any family.

Though I’ve been an avid visitor of this blog–primarily for ANTM, Glee, Photography, and Music News–I’ve never actually posted a comment. I love the idea of ‘Must Read’ on here. I am probably in the minority (favorite posts have been cuddling and hopeless romantic this week), but I dig this headline.
This sounds like it would be a fun book to read. I’ll have to go and pick up a copy. Add it to my Kage Allen collection.
Ha! I’m watching the interview with him on the Daily Show right now!
Alocal community theater is performing his “SantaLand Diaries” again. My sister and niece and I love it! Very funny!
“Must Read” is an excellent addition to this Blog. Sedaris is genius yes again with this one.
Absolutely agreed, Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk is one of Sedaris’ best. It’s dark and haunting and hilarious and touching.
A book review on Manhunt Daily?? Shut up!
I LOVE David Sedaris, “Naked” and “Holidays on Ice” are laugh out loud reads!
For the non-literary types, you should check out the Santa Dairies, his voice alone is enough to crack you up!

i have this book. i highly recommend it.
Yes, please keep the “must-read” on the blog! I take public transportation to and form work and am always looking for new reads to pass the time.
Also, as fun and entertaining as they are, it’s refreshing to read and hear what others have to say about things OUTSIDE of naked men. THIS is why you will win the cybersocket 😉
That being said, it is SO ironic that this was posted because I literally JUST finished reading this book yesterday and I agree: definitely worth picking up. The text is like, 16 pt. font too so it’s an easy read. I was sad when it was over!
I just adore all of the Sedaris kids and their characters. Jerry Blank ROCKS! Thanks for the book info…I’ll check it out.
Must read:? YAY! I’m interested in gay pop culture blogs as much as the next guy. Or curious enough to click open a blog to see which drunk “straight” guy Pierre Fitch has brought home to shoot a DP movie. But this time you had me at “Must read:”…and David Sedaris? well that’s just gravy. Keep ’em coming and thanks for the heads up on the new Sedaris book.
