One Step Closer Towards Passing Hate Crimes Legislation

F-22-fighter

Last week, the US Senate passed a bill that would extend federal hate crimes laws to protect those who are attacked because of their gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or disability. There was some concern that President Barack Obama would veto the bill, given its attachment to funding for the F-22 fighter jet.

Well, guess what? The Senate has voted to strip the bill of that funding, making it much more likely that Obama will sign the bill. They'll be voting tomorrow about removing another unrelated amendment, which would permit gun owners to carry weapons across state lines. As frustrating as this back and forth is, I still remain optimistic.
