While the passage of Proposition 8 was a disappointment to many, there are those who remain committed to fighting it.
All eyes are on the California Supreme Court as the body that can most effectively and quickly put an end to the ban. The main argument opponents of Prop. 8 have is that since it revises the constitution, a two-thirds majority vote in the legislature is required before a popular vote. This will come down to whether the court sees Prop. 8 as an 'amendment' or a 'revision.'
If the court upholds the ban, the only way to overturn it is to put up another ballot initiative down the line seeking to reverse Prop. 8, or take it to Federal Court.
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger spoke out about Prop. 8 to CNN, "It's unfortunate, obviously,
but it's not the end. I think that we will again maybe undo that, if
the court is willing to do that, and then move forward from there and
again lead in that area."
And the Hollywood community is also joining the fight against proposition 8. Drew Barrymore, Lance Bass and James Franco are among celebrities who have joined protests.
