Openly gay author E. Lynn Harris passed away late last week at 54 years-old. Harris was well-known for novels which depicted the double lives of black gay/bisexual men, and his work was particularly popular with black women. "We have a 'don't ask, don't tell' policy in the black community," author and friend Keith Boykin said. "E. Lynn Harris encouraged people to ask and to tell."
You may have loved his writing or hated it. You may not have even picked up one of his books… but you have to respect that this man for opening up a dialogue about homosexuality in the black community. Rest in peace!

He was a wonderful author and GREAT guy…Him and his work will truly be missed.
R.I.P man….peace and love always
I read about this this weekend. I met him at a ballet performance years ago and he was a rather nice and grounded person. He is definitely one of the few authors who was so exponentially successful that they could honestly survive for a living (trust me I know many who couldn’t; even relatively successful ones). He was beyond talented. Though many snubbed his writing style as fluff, in my eyes, he will go in history; will always be considered a VERY influential author who created a formula that’s copied endlessly; and deserves all the lauds he is receiving!
