Random Question: Do You Like Christmas Music?

gay, Santa, bear, sexy, naughty, hairy, beard, hat, undies

A few weeks ago, I was sitting at a holiday party minding my own business with some ginger snaps and a beer. All of a sudden, "Dominick the Donkey" started blaring through the host's speakers. I wasn't really paying attention to the music, but some queen next to me started ranting about how it was the worst Christmas song ever. He wouldn't stop blabbering for the entirety of the song.

Now, I'm not very fond of "Dominick the Donkey" myself, but that's because I'm not really a huge fan of Christmas songs in general. It seems like you can't go anywhere this season without hearing them, and I'm starting to get a little tired of Alvin Chipmunk and his fucking hula hoops. There are a few exceptions that I hold close to my heart, but the majority of holiday songs are downright awful. Luckily, I'm pretty good at repressing my inner Grinch. Who wants to kill the mood?

So let's chat about this matter. Are you a fan of all the Christmas music out there? If so, what's your favorite song? Your least favorite? And the most important question of them all–can someone please send this muscle bear Santa down my chimney? I may have been naughty this year, but I could handle getting a little naughtier…

  1. I’m a huge fan of Christmas music, but the christmas shoes song is the worst song ever written. Hands down.

  2. J. I guess you have no heart at all. Christmas Shoes is a beautiful song, that just reminds us all of our mortality and puts everything in perspective where it should be.
I love all Christmas music. I start listening to it in October and stop Feb 1. Then I listen to it in July and the cycle starts over.
My all time fave Christmas song is by Gayla Peevy – I want a hippopotamus for Christmas

  3. i love christmas music except Dominic the Donkey. I refer to it as Dominic the desginer handbag. My most fav song is “last christmas” i have like three different versions on my ipod. The other best christmas song is “A dirty gay christmas” by jonny mcgovern, so freaking funny

  4. Working retail for over two decades, I avoid Christmas music like the plaque. Well let me be extremely specific Christmas MUZAK…Ughhh! Love it in Christmas movies & TV specials but to turn on the radio just to listen to it; no chance.

  5. I like Christmas music in small doses. It does make the season seem festive and is great when decorating the tree or during a x-mas party.
However, my partner LOVES Christmas music so much it has been one since Thanksgiving day non stop and will be on until New Years Eve. I COULD SCREAM!

  6. Not a big fan, but what are you gonna do?
In the meantime, my sugarplum is leaking at the thought of getting that leather Santa in my chimney. He could be singing “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer” for all I care. Woof!

  7. i like my christmas music in small doses too, but the one song i never tire of is “have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” the Judy Garland version, nothing compares!

  8. OMFG, I love Christmas music, its part of why this season is so great. All the songs are about love and togetherness and when they play everyone knows that its the time of year where no matter what kind of shit you have going on with all your friends and family, you have to remember why they’re important to you and dwell on that. The whole season is meant to bring out the best in people and every chance I get at a holiday party or with my family (they’re used to it) I tickle the nearest ivories and belt out some of my favorites. (you should’ve seen the look on everyones faces at my rugby teams holiday party after I had a few egg nogs, I figured that was a good time to come out) It just brings a warm fuzzy feeling that cant be beat.

  9. I love xmas music too. But I have to say, I really REALLY REALLY hate the Christmas Shoes song with a passion (that and the version of Carol of the Bells where they replace the lyrics with “Jesus is here”). Mostly because though I love the holiday season, I am agnostic, and don’t deal well with any overtly religous stuff during the holidays (go figure lol).

  10. i……HATE …..christmas music! it makes me want to run out slaughter some nice suburban family under their christmas tree…and then torch their house!

  11. I like most Christmas songs. My favorite is The 12 Redneck Days of Christmas. by Jeff Foxworthy. I am from Alabama….. Go Figure
    LOL

  12. “All I want for Christmas is You” by Mariah Carey is the only X-Mas song I can listen to year round and never get tired of!

  13. Ronnell, Christmas music is supposed to be happy and jolly and full of spirit. No one wants to be depressed about some kid’s mom who is about to DIE on christmas. You’ve clearly never lost a parent, otherwise you wouldn’t want to feel that pain again by listening to that piece of crap song. And if you HAVE lost a parent and that song isn’t painful to hear, then it is YOU, my dear, who is without a heart, not I.

  14. All about time and place, but my all time fav is “Trans-Siberian Orchestra – Christmas Eve-Sarajevo 12/24” completely turns Christmas on it’s ass. Maybe you should create a top fav Christmas song vote based off this blog and use the songs mentioned that you can find audio links to

  15. J. no I haven’t lost a parent i’ve lost grandparents aunts and an uncle. I don’t normally think about them and when I hear that song it makes me think of them and remember them for the holidays even if it’s just me saying a prayer for their spirits or going to visit them in the cemetery so yes I do have a heart a very big one where i think of the living and want to be reminded of those I have lost.

  16. “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas” has got to be the worst song ever…next comes “Dominic the Donkey.” Apart from that I like all Christmas music.

  17. Christmas shoe is about a little boy who accepts the fact that his Mother is not going 2 get well and he wants her 2 look beautiful 4 when the moment comes.I no all 2 well pain of losing a parent I sat quietly holding my Father hand as passed away . Had I heard that song when my Dad was passing on I would have brush his hair wiped his face my Dads illness was VERY,VERY painful his dying was VERY peaceful because we had 2 grips with it and J my friend that’s what I think U need 2 do !!! BTW Temple Drake U R N need of some SERIOUS attention B 4 its 2 late !!!

  18. I very much enjoy Christmas music, and I have to say my favorite song is, well, a draw. I have two favorite Christmas songs: “Hurry Home for Christmas” sung by Robert Goulet and “Swiss Colony Beef Log” from Mr. Hankey’s Christmas Classics. Both great songs for very different reasons.

  19. I’m listening right now to Donny Osmond’s “Christmas at Home” album. Can really lift your mood when times are tough.

  20. The best xmas song ever is “December Will Be Magic Again” by Kate Bush. I listen to it year round on my ipod.
