Today marks the eighth anniversary of R&B singer Aaliyah's tragic death. I know a lot of fellow gay men are still big fans of her music, so I thought it'd be appropriate to take a moment and share the fond memories we've attached to her songs. I know this is going to show my age, but I remember back in 1998 when I caught the debut of her "Are You That Somebody?" video on TRL. I'm not even going to talk about awkwardly trying to move to this song at middle school dances. Let's just say my choreography came nowhere close to the original video…

Uggh…your taste in music is so stereotypical. We have to sit thru Miley? Now dead Alliyah? Next I am sure Whitney again? UGGH
if you like REAL music…head on over to my blog and hear the new Pearl Jam. Not all gay dudes like dance music and R&B.

I’m just going to go crawl back under a rock, when you talk of showing your age and mention trying to dance to Aaliya at a “middle school dance”… I didn’t realize I had become the cryptkeeper.
Erik Pearl Jam = REAL music get a clue. No Way in Hell. Aaliyah is REAL MUSIC. And Yes she may be gone from this Earth but she still lives on in her musical legacy. R.I.P. My Angel. And Whitney is that DIVA. She is making her comeback and all I can say is BOUT DAMN TIME. So Erik get a clue.
One girl that would have made me straight was Aaliyah. I used to be obsessed with her. Aaliyah, I will see you again in heaven.
Wow, 8 years since that accident.
Wow. I know where I was when Aaliyah died. It was so tragic. She was such an amazing artist and amazing person. She is now an angel for sure. One of my fav Aaliyah songs is Rock the Boat. She is so missed by so many..
Shaman, I wasn’t implying that I’m “old” as much as I was implying that I’m young and inexperienced in life. (No matter how I phrased the last part of that sentence, it just seems to come off as dirty, like I need some daddy type to give me a lesson. Why is my mind constantly in the gutter?)
Who?
