Rhode Island's legislature is considering legalizing same-sex marriage. If it happens, it would be the third state (all in New England) to legalize gay marriage. Unfortunately, there's also pending legislation that would curtail gay rights in Rhode Island.
The Boston Globe says, "One bill being considered by the Senate Judiciary Committee on
Thursday would allow same-sex couples to marry in Rhode Island. Another
would outright ban gay marriage and prohibit the state from recognizing
same-sex couples as married. Rhode Island law is currently silent on the issue."
This means every state in New England either currently allows same-sex marriages, or is considering it. Let's hope it happens in all of them.

No, it would be the fourth state, the third in New England. Just because Prop. 8 passed, that does not mean California never happened, and if you think that way, the marriage-deniers win. Although I suppose you are technically correct if you refer only to legislative action – which did pass, BEFORE the court decision, but was vetoed by Ah-nold.
AND STOP CALLING CIVIL UNIONS MARRIAGES. Try “legal partnerships” if you need an encompassing term. Or are the northern states all considering true marriage? If so I didn’t know that and links to more info would be great.
