Netflix is on something of a Ryan Reynolds roll of late, between films he’s already starred in for the streaming service (6 Underground), one he was in the middle of shooting when the pandemic shutdown hit (Red Notice) and those he’s made deals on with the company (an untitled action-adventure from Free Guy‘s Shawn Levy). Falling into the latter category is new film that reunites Reynolds with his The Nines writer/director John August.
Upstate, which Reynolds and August will co-write, is being kept strictly secret for now, with Deadline only able to learn that it’s an original comedy. August, who has written the likes of Big Fish and Disney’s live-action Aladdin, may end up directing this one, but there’s no word on that deal yet.
Reynolds, as mentioned, is itching to get back to work on Red Notice, and has The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard and Free Guy on the way, with the former now moved to August 2021 and the latter due in December this year.
