Single Ladies Must Die

I'm not one of those people who hates "Single Ladies". On the other hand, I'm not one of those guys who knows the choreography and will use any opportunity to perform it. I recognize that the song, the video and all the parodies that followed were outstanding. With a ridiculously simple video, Beyonce's team created a cultural explosion.

But now it must be stopped. The Glee episode with the dancing football team was the last straw. So stop trying to create straws in a straw-free zone! I'm pronouncing "Single Ladies" and all subsequent parodies as officially dead. The world probably won't listen, but I will scream until my voice is heard.

If you're wondering where this tirade is coming from, it's just been announced that Liza Minnelli will be performing "Single Ladies" in the Sex and the City sequel's gay wedding scene. While I acknowledge that this will likely be hilarious, the joke is going to be completely played out by the movie's premiere on May 28, 2010. Am I the only one who thinks this is a terrible idea?

  1. I thought Single Ladies was dead before it made it’s way onto Glee. Then I saw it in the episode and actually thought it was funny. Am I saying I want another parody of it? God no. But who knows by the time the movie comes out I may actually like it. Probably not, but hey I liked it in Glee so I guess it’s possible.

  2. i [didn’t like] “single ladies” from the moment i heard it.
it just sounds too easy — i might say, Patronizing.
however, i did like beyoncé’s “Diva” and “Halo.”

  3. Oh, and “Sex in the City” isn’t played out itself? The whole concept is tired, tired, tired. Why pick on one song?
