Sophie Ellis-Bextor, perhaps best known for her 2001 dance hit “Murder on the Dancefloor“, will be making a dramatic switch to her sound for her upcoming fifth album. The English pop singer shared a free download of her new song “Young Blood” last week, writing the following in a message to her fans:
“I can’t wait to share the new music with you. I’m really excited about it. It’s not a dance record, or a pop record, but something a bit different. I still love dance and pop music, and I will be doing more of that further down the line, but sometimes you’ve got to challenge yourself a bit by trying something new. Let’s go on an adventure together!”
“Young Blood” is a sweeping ballad of sorts, more akin to Adele, Emeli Sandé or Rihanna‘s “Stay” than the thumping club jams of her past. I’m definitely intrigued with this new direction. How about you?

She’s my hero for making this a free song. Initially I would have given it a 3 out of 5, but it’s grown on me and now I think it deserves about a 4.5 out of 5.
