“Speak” is a solid indie-pop tune from Oxford fivesome Spring Offensive, and while I hate to be as crass as my heinous co-blogger Boulangerié Knowles, the chorus kind of cock-slaps you in the face. “I will speak now, I will speak now. Or forever hold my tongue,” the boys sing repeatedly over breezy guitars and driving percussion, shutting down the endless loop in your brain that’s playing “When you’re ready come and get it. Na, na, na, na. Na, na, na, na”. (Not that my brain is constantly singing Selena Gomez to my soul, except yes, it totally is.)
If you dig this, you should also check out the band’s 2012 single “Worry Fill My Heart“. It doesn’t quite pack the same punch, but it maintains the same brand of indie-pop flavor. I’d also recommend the acoustic version of “Carrier“, especially if you’d prefer a change of pace.
