Tecla is definitively not the next Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj or Rihanna. If pop stars were juice boxes, her flavor would more accurately be described as “Tropical Kelis Fruit Punch”. There’s a remarkable vocal similarity between Tecla and the eccentric, genre-defying singer, but we’d say she channels a global sound and style that’s more akin to, say, M.I.A. or Santigold.
“Fake Tears” is the first single from Tecla’s debut album We Are The Lucky Ones. It’s a promising debut that shows her songwriting has evolved exponentially since 2010’s Strangers In Masks mixtape, and we look forward to seeing what else she has to offer from here on.
