Late last month, the trailer for Broke Straight Boys‘ reality TV spinoff made its debut, giving you a sneak peek at the real (yet likely staged) lives of gay-for-pay performers like Jimmy Johnson, Kaden Alexander, Paul Canon and supposed non-racist Damien Kyle. You can watch the footage here, in case you somehow missed it on every other gay blog in the world.
Personally, I’d rather watch these heterosexual douchebags getting their fuzzy holes dicked down, instead of hearing them talk about their mothers or brag about chicks they banged in a closet… But, eh, what do I know about what’s marketable? I always thought gay porn fans would prefer to see actual gay men having sex and enjoying it, but seeing that the trailer casually states Broke Straight Boys has “thousands” of paying members, there must be some appeal to straight boys moaning sensually while getting their prostates poked then pretending they didn’t love every second.

Wait, it isn’t your wish to convert every straight guy you see, either? It’s not just internalized homophobia, it’s externalized, too. The people who are buying this stuff could be supporting actors who aren’t “gay-for-pay,” and they tend to be the same people who use phrases like “straight-acting” and “masculine” (as code for the same) to describe what they want in other people. They hate/fear themselves and everyone else, too. They hate straight people for having a life they perceive as normal – the only possible reason to identify with the “exploitation” theme.
Some straight men should be idolized. The ones like Todd Sanfield and Ben Cohen, who work to build a better world for all of us, even though they already have every conceivable genetic advantage in the Western world (a penis, white skin, an attractive body, and a useful mind). While they may not be suitable for worship – there’s a lot of touching in my method – they’re suitable subjects for contemplation and emulation. But it just doesn’t make sense to me either, why we’d objectify straight guys when there’s this entire world full of proudly gay dudes to non-exploitatively pay to be filmed having sex.
I did miss that bit of news. Having watched the trailer, I can only assume this is a publicity stunt. Tate Thompson’s some eye-candy though, in that “friendly neighborhood weed dealer you would fuck” kind of way. And damn, do I love me some blonde, fuzzy ass.

Look I am all for equality and our getting rights to marry and not be discriminated against but that is not the way to win any popularity contest with the rest of America and just fuels the fight against us all.
I really have to assume this is a publicity stunt. LOGO probably wouldn’t air something that so clearly damages public perception of the LGBT lifestyle. Pretty much any major network that were to pick this up would pretty quickly put it down (except, maybe, for Bravo). The advertisement that it’s “coming to TV” and not “coming to [insert channel here]” tells me that if it’s actually being produced, it’s probably some YouTube BS that’ll be forgotten about five minutes before it ever sees the light of day.

Why do we as gay people always have to assume a guy is gay just because he has sex with a man. I’ve had sex with women and I was still gay. Give em a break. You’ll do a lot of things if the money is right and you need it bad enough.
How does this damage the public perception of the LGBT. The show is about straight guys and how they do porn because they need money. If anything, it could be a way to show how straight society is still not accepting of gays and these guys have to lead straight lifestyles because its still shunned. I’m looking forward to seeing it. Just another show to draw you in. Thank god we even have LGBT programming.
Do you think that’s more likely to happen, or do you think it’s gonna be like Jersey Shore, except no one ever accused New Jersey of exploiting “normal” people who need money (they DO exploit people who want to drive ten miles an hour faster on the highway without being pulled over, but that costs money)? I’m in the second camp on this one. Now, I think there’s something offensive about all “reality TV” with a similar format to this show (I dig me some Love it or List It, Yard Crashers, House Hunters, and so on – reality-reality TV) this just hit my gag reflex a little harder than some of the other crap in the pipeline.
