In a case of exquisite-ass timing, it was revealed this week that the Vatican spent around 30 million on an apartment building in Rome that houses one of the biggest gay saunas in Europe – the Europa Multiclub. *chortle* As you’ve probably been reminded ad nauseum, the Vatican is currently trying to choose a new Ms. Pope Universe. They haven’t even gotten to the swimsuit or evening gown competitions yet, and it’s already mired in scandal! This is why the Catholic Church needs to re-think their PR strategy. Shielding pedophiles from prosecution and putting the gay community on blast for wanting equal rights needs to be put on the back burner. They really need to focus on these black marks on their credibility.

i was brought up Catholic and ran like hell from it when I turned 18 because of its attitude towards gay – so imagine my absolute delight when all the pedophile priest shit hit the fan – and now this? – come on, how much more hypocritical can this institution get? – I say sell off all the art and church property, fire every last one of them and shut the whole thing down – I we’re not the abominations, they are! – and the irony is I was an altar boy and wanted to become a priest at one point in my younger days – dodged a bullet there, didn’t I?

Ex-Catholics can be remarkably anti-Catholic. Some seek the elimination of the Church. This desire often goes beyond the Church’s teachings. Most priests are decent, conscientious, and faithful Christians. Statistics show that approximately 98% of priests do not abuse children. The percentage of priests who are pedophiles should be zero. It is estimated to be about 2%, approximately the same as the percentage of married men who are pedophiles. Sex abuse of children is more likely to occur in homes and schools than by clergy. The Church is paying a significant price for the sexual abuse of children and the inept way it was handled. Many Catholic dioceses, including the one I’m in, are in bankruptcy. I don’t see how any New Testament Christian can derive enjoyment from the problems in the Church. The need for forgiveness, and the need to give forgiveness, are core beliefs for every believer.

I was also like you at one time an Alter-boy and thought about becoming a Priest as well. But I turned my back on them when they turned a back on my mother due to her divorce. She refused the annulment because she did not want me considered a bastard child. Yes how they see gay’s rot’s not happy about it but I do not consider any religion a bad thing we all have rights we want to have. How can we hate them and what they want and expect them to accept us and our rights?

Christians do apologize and ask forgiveness for sins. In 2000, for example, Pope John Paul II made “a sweeping apology for 2,000 years of violence, persecution and blunders” by the Catholic Church. He asked for forgiveness for “sins committed against Jews, heretics, women, Gypsies and native peoples.”
