This Week’s MANHUNT Daily Song of Summer Charts

Song of the Summer

The nominations are in, and now we’re ready to find out what jam will hold the title of 2009’s MANHUNT Daily Song of Summer. In case you missed the rules, each week we will be featuring ten songs vying for this prestigious honor. Based on your votes, the top seven will move on to the following week along with three new selections.

Don’t see your favorite song in this edition? Leave a comment nominating it for next week. We’ll give it a listen and decide whether it has what it takes. Get ready boys… it’s going to be a long, sweet summer.

– Dewitt

To see this week’s charts and vote, follow the JUMP:

  1. Mariah Carey – Obsessed: We were skeptical about this one initially, but a few repeat listens of Mimi’s new single have us telling guys who claim they’re over nine inches that we see through them like they’re bathing in Windex. We suggest using lyrics from this song in your standard regret message.
  2. Lady Gaga – LoveGame: We considered replacing this with “Paparazzi” because of the fantastic music video, but the disco stick references were too priceless to pass on.
  3. David Guetta f/ Kelly Rowland – When Love Takes Over: This song is so addictive that we’ve posted it a total of three times. We’re desperately trying to make it happen, but something’s telling us this might catch on as well as “that’s so fetch”. They’re both from Europe after all…
  4. Keri Hilson f/ Ne-Yo & Kanye West – Knock You Down: Speaking of things we didn’t think would ever happen, Keri Hilson finally has a hit on her hands other than “Way I Are”. We were worried that she’d be another R&B casuality, but this song is so hot that you’ll need to be hosed down after listening to it. Not that kind of hose.
  5. 3OH !3 – Don’t Trust Me: These guys sort of seem like douches, but we might overlook this song’s general awfulness if they keep dancing in tight wrestling singlets. Just sayin’.
  6. Britney Spears – Radar: This might have been ranked higher if the song wasn’t so damn old. Seriously! Who releases a song from their last album? Maybe the video will make up for the horrendous single cover.
  7. The Pussycat Dolls f/ Nicole Scherzinger – Hush Hush: Not exactly my favorite, but a few folks in our office can’t get enough of it. According to Andy, “all the gays, young and old, were singing along to it” at Disney’s Gay Days. Can the cross-generational appeal make up for Perez appearing in the video?
  8. Green Day – Know Your Enemy: Wait? Green Day has a new song? I didn’t even realize Billy Joe and the boys were back. Since “Basket Case” is one of my karaoke staples, I’ll let them sneak in at spot number eight.
  9. The Ting Tings – That’s Not My Name: Much like Ms. Spears song, this might have been ranked higher if it wasn’t released last year. But who knows? The general public caught on to Lady Gaga way later than the gays. Perhaps we’re late this time.
  10. Jay-Z – Death of Autotune: This one goes out to our darling commenter “jay”. Sure, you can have sex with men and get down to Hova, but we’re even more skeptical of this being the song of summer than we were of Mariah’s auto-tune tinged single at first.

  1. Nice, Green Day made the list at least once. You’re my favorite person right now, Dewitt. Dookie was the first tape I owned.

  2. uh, how about none. not a single one of these nominations has a shred of talent. if they are truly representative of what the gay “community” is listening to, then woe be unto us.

  3. Say what? Kelly Rowland can really sing…great range, power to her voice, and she looks great, too.

  4. i voted keri hilson, “knock you down”. it has been on my ipod for awhile.
there’s a reason they call her “Black Barbie”, girl’s gorgeous!
im feeling kelly rowland as well. she was always my favourite member of DC. wish her much success

  5. I voted for lady gaga, I mean, I enjoy it, but give me a week and I’ll be tired of it.

  6. if we are going to resurrect old songs like Radar which has been making the rounds since summer 07. Why not Black and Gold by Sam Sparro. Support Gay artists.

  7. I’m going to complain as well. This music is all shit. I second that we should be supporting gay artists or just legitimate artists in general.

  8. It’s so funny how many people bagged (and continue to bag) on Mariah’s song. It is actually a pretty cool song! I will always have love for her. I met her way back when and she was undoubtedly one of the nicest celebs out there. No auspices and just an all-around nice person. Much of the things she does is because people expect it of her; tons of celebs do that.

  9. Why not have both Lady GaGa songs? She’s fierce enough to have two in the countdown. Plus, the video for Paparazzi is enough to push her into this list a second time.

  10. I’m with tny on this one where is Sam Sparro’s “Black and Gold” or “Pocket”
    also where’s:
Black Eyed Peas- Boom Boom Pow
Pitbull- I know you want me
    Kid Cudi- Day ‘n’ Nite

  11. I’m with Kyle, there seriously needs to be a None of the Above selection. I’m starting to believe that gay men are STUCK ON REPEAT! Where’s Little Boots, The Gossip, Tiga, or Fischerspooner? The only song worth listening to on this list is The Ting Tings and that album came out early 2008.

  12. I think it’s funny that everyone is complaining but won’t bother making suggestions! LOL…
I want Drake “Best I Ever Had”. My friends and I laugh everytime about that line with the pussy whistling.

  13. what about kelly clarkson (I do not hook up), kevin rudolf (let it rock), jonas bros (paranoid-dance version)

  14. I would like to nominate Kaci – “Crazy Possessive”. I can’t stop listening to this song!!

  15. See, I’ve been a fan of GaGa’s well before she was famous, when everyone was just starting to listen to her album, I knew it all by heart. I was also saying that GaGa was going to be my generations Madonna before Kanye!
