Even though I don’t work a nine to five job, I always get excited on the Friday afternoons before holiday weekends. This weekend, I’m EXTRA excited because I’m heading to New York for Hustlaball, so I decided to spend my afternoon compiling a playlist of new music to listen to on the ride down. The only thing is that all the music I like lately is kind of a downer. Well, except for one song.

Listen to four selections from my playlist below:

Cate Le Bon is from Wales and in November she’ll be releasing her third album, Mug Museum, which I’m very excited about. “Are You With Me Now” is the first single. It’s very low energy, in a good way. Here’s a fan-made video, featuring some vintage skateboarding action.
Perfume Genius, who I know a lot of the gays are into, makes a guest appearance on the album, too. If you don’t know Le Bon’s earlier work—and, you know, probably you don’t—check out the video for “Shoeing The Bones”, which was on her first album. It’s really weird!

Speaking of really weird, I’ve also been spending a lot of time with Master, the new Teeth of the Sea album. It’s mostly instrumental, kind of heavy-sounding, and really, really strange. It’s great. “The Servant” has some horns that sound like the Rocky theme, some mumbled talking, cheeseball synths, and it pretty much sounds like you’re walking down an endless hallway in someone else’s nightmare. Look for it on Spotify, since Youtube isn’t being very helpful.

For something a little more melodic, I present to you Chelsea Wolfe, who’s a sort of garage-goth singer songwriter from Sacramento. Pain Is Beauty is the name of her new album, and it’s an album I could see myself having a lot of sex to. This catchy ditty’s called “Destruction Makes The World Burn Brighter”. Also, just as a side note, I was tipped off to her existence by a very, very hot friend. (Here’s what he looks like covered in fake blood.)

And finally, if you want something at the TOTAL opposite end of the mood spectrum, there’s “Porom Pom Pom,” the new single by Amara La Negra. I’ve forgotten basically all of my high school and college Spanish, but I’m quite fluent in the international language of bouncing asses, and this is all too wonderful for words.
(PS: Can some hot Latin boys please make a fan video for this immediately?)
