Vote For The Weekly Top Ten Wild Card

On last Saturday’s Weekly Top Ten, one of our Wild Card selections peaked at second place. Unfortunately, Ms. Florence Welch is now resting in the seventh spot, but there’s still time to vote. Oh, and did I mention that our winner from two weeks ago, Aqua, has a chance at taking fourth place? It’s starting to look like this whole Wild Card thing is working out every now and then…

This week’s round includes new music by Shakira, Solange Knowles, Alicia Keys and Allison Iraheta. If you don’t like any of these tunes, feel free to suggest your favorite song for next week’s edition. We’d love to hear what you’ve been listening to recently!

Shakira f/ Timbaland & Lil Wayne – Give It Up To Me: Next to “She Wolf” and “Did It Again”, this video seems like a joke. It doesn’t even feel like a Shakira video! Even so, the song’s been growing on me since when we first posted it. And I’ll root for any song that’ll enable Shakira to release her damn album in the US.

Solange Knowles – Stillness In The Move (Dirty Projectors cover): By now, you’ve probably realized that “Video Phone” will be making a triumphant return to the Weekly Top Ten, but could Beyonce have some competition from her little sister? Honestly, a Lady Gaga feature isn’t enough for me to choose a shitty Beyonce song over an excellent Solange cover version. Just sayin’.

———————————————————————————

Alicia Keys – Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart: Or maybe we should just give “Empire State of Mind” another try now that it’s at the top of the Billboard 100? This one may need to grow on me, but I’m feeling it a lot more than her first single “Doesn’t Mean Anything”.

Allison Iraheta – Friday I’ll Be Over You: Wouldn’t it be kind of awesome if after all this hoopla about Kris Allen and Adam Lambert went down, Allison Iraheta wound up being more popular than both of them? Judging from her new single, I might not mind that. Then again, she does seem a little superfluous in a world with Kelly Clarkson, Katy Perry and Pink. Just sayin’.

  1. Here are a few suggestions:
    “Yesterday” by Toni Braxton
“A Man’s World” by Jadyn Maria ft. Katy Perry
“Future Love” by Kristinia DeBarge ft. Pitbull

  2. I am voting for Shakira because out of all the choices this week, it’s the only one that I like, plus we know since last week that is going to be in the chart this weekend.

  3. i’m voting solange. i like her voice, she has her own unique style and isn’t riding off of the success of her sister…
i like the cover/sample and the general vibe of the song
i like shakira, but she needs to stick to what she knows; folksy, latin-inspired shih. i like this song, but not for shakira, she just doesn’t fit well with it.
the video is fun and it’s a nice track, but shakira doesn’t have an urban rhythm, so she shouldn’t try and fake the funk…
