Watch ‘The Boys in the Band’s First Trailer for Netflix

Take us back to 1968! That’s exactly what the trailer for Netflix’s new The Boys in the Band trailer.

Releasing on September 30, the new film is based on the 1968 off-Broadway play that had a Tony-winning Broadway turn in 2018. It stars Jim Parsons as a prickly host that gets a group of friends together for a little party.

As evident in the trailer, Parson’s brute attitude wrinkles a few feathers at first but then, after a dangerous phone game, the room is left in tears and a fight or two. “My god Michael, you’re a charming host,” Matt Bomer says as Donald in the trailer.

Parsons is joined by the full all-star cast that played in the 2018 production with Zachary Quinto, Matt Bomer, Andrew Rannells, Charlie Carver, Robin de Jesus, Brian Hutchison, Michael Benjamin Washington, and Tuc Watkins all playing roles. The project features exclusively out gay actors in the gay roles of the film.

Joe Mantello, who helped to lead the Broadway production is also on hand here as director. This will be the second film based on the stageplay as the first was released in 1970. That stageplay was written by Mart Crawley, who also wrote the screenplay for the Netflix film. Crowley passed in March.

Of all of the actors, we honestly can’t wait to see Robin de Jesus as Emory, the campiest, unabashed friend that we all truly need.
