Weekly Top Ten: Gaga & Beyonce Dominate

Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Sade, Ke$ha, Robyn, Tiesto, Three Six Mafia, Sean Kingston, Flo Rida, Mika, Matt Alber, Tom Goss, Zooey Deschanel, M. Ward, She & Him, music, vote, gay, charts, coutdown, weekly top ten, voting, pop, indie, electronic, dance, acoustic, singer-songwriter, R&B

To no one's surprise, Lady Gaga and Beyonce proudly rest atop today's edition of the Weekly Top Ten. Aside from Sade getting bumped to the number four spot, there really aren't many changes in this week's top five. Hopefully, we'll see a little more drama in the weeks to come, or this will start getting boring very fast.

You know what's even sadder than Sade's fall from the number one spot? Right as Rihanna picks up her fifth number one single with "Rude Boy", she didn't manage to score enough votes to stay on our charts. We had already saved both her song and Shakira, and the remaining options didn't look too hopeful. Lolene, Hole and Kerli didn't receive anywhere near enough votes, and in a surprising move… we're not saving them.

In our Wild Card round, Three Six Mafia and Tiësto gained over forty-percent of your votes. This didn't bode too well for their competitors, so you won't be seeing Sgt. Sass, Slipknot or Hot Chip on the charts any time soon. Sad face!

If you're a Weekly Top Ten virgin, get on your knees while we shove our rules down your throat. Each week you'll be presented with ten songs. You get to vote for up to three that you'd like to see move on to the next week. From those results, we'll take the five tunes with the highest percentages, a song we (usually) save and four other contributions. These selections will make up the following week's charts.

Wishing there was a "none of the above" option? Well, quit your bitching and tell us what you want to see on the charts by leaving a suggestion in the comments. We listen to nearly every song you recommend, and if we think it'll have a chance… you might see it here next time around!

To check out the charts and vote, follow the JUMP:

  1. Lady Gaga f/ Beyonce – Telephone (LW – 7): You may not have all unanimously loved the Doggie Gaga Project, but more than three-quarters of you voted "Telephone" to the top. She won't be moving from this spot for a while, so get used to it! As the woman herself says, "Once you kill a cow, you've gotta make a burger." We're not sure how that's relevant right now, but we really like quoting it.
  2. Lady Gaga – Bad Romance (LW – 2): Two in a row? It appears that Gaga may be having the best week ever. Though a few folks in our office will argue that this song is "so over", I still get excited every time I hear it. We don't plan on retiring it until Gaga releases another single from The Fame Monster. And if the alleged video for "Alejandro" takes as long as the clip for "Telephone", that may take a while…
  3. Alicia Keys – Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart (LW – 3): With Gaga at full force and Alicia holding it down with Sade, we don't have much hope for this week's rookies. Oddly, I hadn't watched the video for this song until yesterday afternoon. I'm much more supportive of this jam now that I know Alicia Keys can heal dying puppies with a single touch of the hand.
  4. Sade – Soldier of Love (LW – 4): How quickly they fall! Ms. Adu got the crown knocked right off her head, but we have a feeling that she'll continue to march on. If she can handle moving on from heartbreak, she can pull it together and lasso up the votes needed to keep her on the charts.
  5. Ke$ha – Blah Blah Blah (LW – 5): This kind of feels like torture. Why do I have the feeling that Ke$ha will linger at the number five spot, teasing me with her imminent extinction? To make matters even more horrific, there isn't even a video of shirtless boys dancing to this song.
  6. Robyn – Fembots (DEBUT): Once you go tech, you ain't ever goin' back. Robyn premiered this new single on her website recently, and I've had it on repeat ever since. Can we please vote her into the top five? I'd cry tears of joy if she knocked out Ke$ha. In fact, those tears would be especially joyful if she knocked her unconscious.
  7. Three Six Mafia f/ Tiësto, Sean Kingston & Flo Rida – Feel It (WILD CARD): How have I never heard this song before this week? Hell, I didn't even know it existed! This is one of the better hip-hop club jams that I've heard in a while, and I can't wait to bother the DJ to play it this weekend.
  8. Mika – Kick Ass (DEBUT): You didn't have much to say about Mika's theme song for the upcoming film Kick Ass, so we're just going to assume you enjoyed it. Turn it up to max volume, throw on a spandex leotard and get ready to save the world.
  9. Matt Alber & Tom Goss – Who We Are (DEBUT): After Matt and Tom gave us such a wonderful interview, we couldn't stop ourselves from including them on the countdown. Plus, we can't stop listening to their anti-DADT song "Who We Are". A vote for them is a vote for all those "wild-hearted lovers who are sick of holding hands in the dark."
  10. She & Him – In The Sun (DEBUT): One of our favorite commenters accurately designated this song the "anti-Telephone". It's cutesy, simple and utterly charming. And did we mention that actress Zooey Deschanel has got some great pipes on her? Give this underdog a chance!

  1. glad to see alicia still here.
    very good song.
gonna check the video (<<< shame still haven't)

  2. I agree completely about bothering DJ’s to start playing FEEL IT.
    it’s a hot jam!

  3. Gaga, Robyn and Three 6 Mafia get my votes. I was gonna recommend Robyn’s single for next week, but you guys beat me to it so I won’t make a suggestion this time around.

  4. The great thing about Sade is that her music can hold its own. Not even Lady Gaga’s album debuted with a gold status. Within over a month and a half since its release, Soldier of Love is already reached platinum nor does she rely upon gimmicks to sell, so yeah….Sade rocks!

  5. Robyn’s single is “Fembot” not Fembots.
I voted for her, She & Him and Bad Romance. (I just like seeing how long it can stay on this chart?)
