Weekly Top Ten Wild Card: The Random Vote

While Stevie Nicks and Pink have made early bids for our Weekly Top Ten countdown, there are still a few more slots to fill before this Saturday’s post! Frankly, we considered skipping the Wild Card round altogether, in order to give Ellie Goulding or Alexis Jordan a chance on the charts. Then we came across a couple of new songs we thought we’d try out. Now, we’re depending on you to choose the best selection!

This week’s Wild Card round features music by Kimberly Caldwell, Crystal Castles, Disturbed and Destroyer. Only one of these artists can make it onto this weekend’s rankings, so get your votes in before it’s too late! And if you don’t like any of these choices? Instead of complaining about it, make a recommendation for next week’s competition!

– Dewitt

To listen to these selections and cast your vote, follow the JUMP:

Kimberly Caldwell – Desperate Girls & Stupid Boys: If we’re making predictions based on the general musical taste of this site’s readers, this is the dead-ringer for today’s winner. This stomping pop jam finds the former American Idol contestant doing her best impression of Pink or Kelly Clarkson. Does it pay off in the end? You be the judge.

Crystal Castles f/ Robert Smith – Not In Love: Yes, that Robert Smith! The lead-singer from The Cure who also played guitar a few times for Siouxsie and the Banshees. He’s kind of a big deal, you guys! And he’s kind of doing vocals for Crystal Castles’ electro-tinged cover of Platinum Blonde’s “Not In Love”.

Disturbed – The Animal: For once, I went out of my way to select something I completely don’t understand. Disturbed certainly lives up to their name, based on the few seconds I actually watched of this video. All in all, this goes out to anyone who wishes we’d post more metal, even if this band isn’t “metal” enough for you.

Destroyer – Kaputt: Fans of The New Pornographers may know Dan Bejar as the guy who’s responsible for the group’s more experimental or oddball tracks. Of course, those fans are probably aware of his other project Destroyer and have already seen the video for “Kaputt”. As for the rest of you? You’re just going to wonder why we posted a song by a guy who sings like a creepy uncle.

  1. ’bout time dewitt put some rock on here and not the same old crap..and i mean crap

  2. Rockin’!! Ms C is hot! Awesome song had me singing the chorus by the end. Love it! It’s not Fucking Perfect, but it’s close.

  4. Not a Disturbed fan, but I do like Rock as well as pop. Nine Inch Nails: Closer, Breaking Benjamin: Diary of Jane, Red: Take It All Away, Staind: It’s Been Awhile, Linkin Park: In the End, Evanescence: , Skillet: Monster, Seether: Fake It, Saliva: Always, Nirvana: Smells Like Teen Spirit, Drowning Pool: Sinner, etc. All have songs on my playlist, and that’s mixed in with other songs by those artist and Christina Aguilera, Pink, Beethoven, Mozart, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Beyonce, Brandy, Monica, TLC, T.I., etc. Just because I’m gay doesn’t mean I have to like a certain type of music. I like a lot of different kinds of music. Except for Country. Can’t stand Country.

  5. I would be careful about debuting the Pink and Stevie Nicks songs too early. Although they are amazing songs and will get my votes, there are no videos to them (lets face it, we do live in a visual world), and they haven’t been released to radio for that long. They may get lost in the shuffle. I would give them one more week to pick up some momentum.

  6. out all these songs i just had to pick disturbed.. looks bad ass.. but the rest.. way to… i dont even have a word for it

  7. I saw Kimberly Caldwell do this song live in Worcester a few weeks back. Her vocals are incredible.

  8. Jeeze, Kimberly Caldwell. Talk about generic. It’s catchy and fine, but man. It is ridiculous.

“Not in Love” the best one! I’ve been listening to it a lot, but now it’s too late to vote 🙁

  9. I don’t know how to go about suggesting a song for a wild card, so I’m just gonna shout it out here. Kites by Geographer. Or Verona by the same band. I realize that they’re a few months old and that neither is going cater to the tastes of the majority on this blog, but I’ve had their latest album Animal Shapes on repeat for a week or so, now. And I’d love to be able to vote the crap out of it. Ha.
